Cold Plate Validation and Qualification

Every ToneCooling cold plate undergoes 100 % production-line QA at our IATF 16949-aligned partner facility in Huizhou before shipment to Australia. Standard validation pack: helium leak ≤ 1×10⁻⁹ mbar·L/s, ultrasonic C-scan 100% inspection of the bonded interface, pressure and flow performance testing, environmental reliability per AS/NZS 60068-2-14 thermal cycling and humidity exposure. Real production-line evidence: TC-1P104S production-line sample, production batch — air-tightness 4 Pa measured against 30 Pa specification per QC/T 468-2010. Lot-traceable inspection certificates accompany every shipment.

What standards govern ToneCooling cold plate validation before shipment to Australia?

Validation and qualification at ToneCooling Australia is a multi-step production-line QA process applied to every cold plate before shipment to AU buyers. Thermal cycling endurance per IEC 60068-2-14:2009 (equivalent to AS/NZS 60068-2-14 mapped to Standards Australia). Salt-spray corrosion endurance per ISO 9227. Quality management per ISO 9001:2015 + IATF 16949:2016.

What does the production-line validation pack include?

Five sequential validation steps applied to every production unit before lot-traceable certificates accompany the shipment to Australia. Each step has its own pass/fail acceptance criterion.
Step 1 · Hermetic sealing

Helium leak detection · HLT560

Mass-spectrometer leak rate ≤ 1×10⁻⁹ mbar·L/s on every production unit. Two to three orders of magnitude tighter than typical industry specifications.

Step 2 · Bond integrity

Ultrasonic C-scan · S800

100 % C-scan imaging on TLP-bonded and brazed cold plates. Detects bond-line voids and disbonds before hydraulic and thermal validation.

Step 3 · Hydraulic performance

Pressure-drop / flow rate verification

ΔP measurement at programme-specified coolant flow rate and chemistry (50/50 EGW · 25 % PG · DI water). Comparison to CFD prediction baseline.

Step 4 · Thermal cycling

AS/NZS 60068-2-14 ≡ IEC 60068-2-14:2009

Endurance evidence across −40 °C to 150 °C and 20–98 % RH. Typical 1000-cycle accelerated thermal-cycling sequence with leak retest at end.

100% production-line QA before shipment to Australia: helium leak detection, ultrasonic C-scan, hydrostatic pressure, AS/NZS 60068-2-14 thermal cycling, ISO 9227 salt-spray (coastal). Certificates accompany every cold plate.
1

Helium leak detection (100%)

High-sensitivity helium mass-spectrometer leak detector applied to every production cold plate. Sensitivity ≤ 1×10⁻⁹ mbar·L/s.

≤ 1×10⁻⁹ mbar·L/s · per ASTM standard
2

Ultrasonic C-scan (100%)

Non-destructive inspection of the bonded interface per ASTM E2375-22. 2-D image of bonded plane shows void-free bonding (uniform colour) or voids (dark patches).

100% per production unit
3

Hydraulic pressure & flow

ΔP measured against design specification at rated flow rate. Pressure-cycle testing for structural integrity. Burst-pressure testing on lot samples.

Working 0.35 MPa · burst 4 MPa typ.
4

Environmental reliability

Thermal cycling endurance per AS/NZS 60068-2-14 (−40 °C to +150 °C, 100–1,000 cycles). Humidity exposure 20–98% RH per IEC 60068-2-78. Salt-spray per ISO 9227.

−40 °C to 150 °C · 20–98% RH

What validation & qualification questions do Australian engineers ask?

What tests are run on every cold plate?

Helium leak ≤ 1×10⁻⁹ mbar·L/s, ultrasonic C-scan, hydraulic ΔP, AS/NZS 60068-2-14 thermal cycling, IEC 60068-2-78 humidity. TC-1P104S production-line sample measured 4 Pa against 30 Pa specification.

What is the helium leak rate sensitivity?

≤ 1×10⁻⁹ mbar·L/s — two orders of magnitude tighter than industrial pressure-decay (10⁻⁷). Required for hyperscaler-grade direct-to-chip cooling.

How does ultrasonic C-scan work?

Non-destructive inspection per ASTM E2375-22; 2-D image of bonded plane shows void-free (uniform) or voids (dark). 100% production unit inspection.

What thermal cycling envelopes are qualified?

AS/NZS 60068-2-14:2014 (IEC 60068-2-14:2009 adoption): −40 °C to +150 °C, 100–1,000 cycles per qualification, 30-min dwell per extreme.

What documentation accompanies a shipment?

Per cold plate: helium leak cert, C-scan report, ΔP test record. Per lot: RoHS 2.0 + PFAS-free SGS, AS/NZS 60068-2-14 endurance, ChAFTA Cert. of Origin, AUD invoice.
